Calcium carbide is a colorless compound without any specific smell (when in pure form). However, when it isn't completely pure it can have a characteristic smell. It can mostly be found in form of small pebbles of various sizes and colors. It is used in the production of acetylene, in metallurgy (in the production of steel), in the production of calcium cyanamide (which is used as a fertilizer), in special carbide lamps, etc.
We don't have much information regarding places where calcium carbide could be found. It could be found in companies that sell chemicals used in the food industry, in stores that sell plumbing equipment and in agricultural shops, although we didn't check. Calcium carbide could maybe also be found in workshops/factories that deal with metal processing (since it is used for the extraction of sulphur during the production and casting of iron).
