Hazards chemistry tutorials - sodium carbonate - additional data:

Sodium carbonate is an inorganic compound which comes in form of a white powder or small crystals, at standard conditions. One of the most important applications of sodium carbonate is the production of certain types of glass. This compound is also used as a pH regulator. Solutions of this compound are also commonly used as an electrolyte. Sodium carbonate is also important in analytical chemistry, where it is used as a primary standard for acid-base titrations. It can be used for cleaning and degreasing and is also known to be used as a food additive in certain types of food.

Sodium carbonate can be bought in stores which sell agricultural and viticultural equipment, in the decahydrate form. Such sodium carbonate is used for cleaning wine barrels. Anhydrous sodium carbonate can be ordered from from chemical selling companies.
